About This Business

Golden Spoon is a family-run restaurant in the heart of Fort Quarter, beloved by locals for its generous rice and curry platters, crispy short eats, and fresh seafood brought in daily from the nearby coast.

What to Expect

Step inside and the aroma of slow-cooked dhal, roasted spices, and coconut sambol hits you before you even sit down. The kitchen runs an open counter where you can watch chefs prepare devilled prawns, kottu roti, and lamprais parcels to order. Portions are famously large — most first-time visitors leave with a takeaway box.

Popular Dishes

  • Rice and Curry Platter with five sides

  • Fresh fish ambulthiyal

Short Eats and Drinks

  • Vegetable rolls and fish cutlets

  • Fresh lime juice and king coconut
  • Plain tea or kiri tea
  • Wood apple juice

The restaurant seats around fifty guests across its open-air veranda and a smaller air-conditioned dining room. Private function bookings are available for groups of up to twenty, and the kitchen can prepare custom menus for celebrations, office gatherings, or visiting tour groups with at least two days’ notice.

We cook the way our grandmother taught us — fresh ingredients, proper time on the fire, and enough for everyone at the table to go home happy.

Golden Spoon is a ten-minute walk from the central bus stand along Main Street. Look for the bright yellow signboard just past the clock tower junction. Takeaway and bulk catering orders are accepted by phone, and a delivery service covers addresses within a five-kilometre radius of the restaurant.
